The Social Sciences
Psychology has been the Pied Piper that has enticed all the other social sciences off a cliff.
Take economics. Why does the stock market go up? Because a bunch of people decide – have the idea – to buy stocks. Why do they have that idea? Where did it come from?
If the study of the mind were doing its job, then the answer to these questions would be a logical outgrowth of a basic understanding of the mind. Instead the economist studies graphs and tries to hypothesize about societal forces. It isn’t societal forces that cause people to buy or sell stocks: It’s something happening inside their minds. And if the economist had tools to understand minds, then they would have a lot better track record when it came to economic trends.
